A trailer for an invitational video game tournament, raising money for Mind UK.
The loose prompt given by the commissioner for the trailer was 'fun and casual' to emphasise an inviting atmosphere for people to support charity. I chose to brand both the event and trailer through the use of bold colours, upbeat music and repeating images of characters with expressive stances and poses to enhance the emotional vibrancy of the event. I took screenshots from within the featured game, 'Super Smash Bros Ultimate', using the game's camera mode to choose which angles, animations and specific frames I'd like to use in the trailer.
I styled the motion graphics to flow into and out of each other seamlessly to broaden the appeal of the trailer, with the intention of captivating the audience via editing to improve the likelihood of them watching the entire trailer and thus supporting the event's charity cause. The invited players' section was intentionally made to be the most extravagant part of the trailer in each scene's design as it would allow each player to be presented more personably, further highlighting the event's focus on a charismatic atmosphere than a serious, competitive one.
The reception of the trailer was very strong, considering the relatively small reach of the organisers' online brand, and led to 26 nominees signing up for the voting stage, with £5,452.59 raised for charity total.
Since, I have worked with the commissioner on 3 separate projects due to the trust in quality I'd built from the above trailer.
