PROJECT DURATION: 8 DAYS

A reveal announcement for competitive Super Smash Bros Ultimate player Sparg0 being sponsored by FaZe Clan, and for FaZe Clan entering the realm of Smash Bros eSports. It was made to be revealed onstage at one of the California's largest gaming tournaments of the year before being posted on social media afterwards.

This project was a collaborative effort with members of FaZe Clan's production team; I was granted a large chunk of directorial control while still fitting within the FaZe's brand guidelines and general interests.

Due to it being the organisations first foray into Smash Bros eSports, it was important that the video be as impactful and suspenseful as possible in regards to both revealing the newly sponsored 2nd best player in the world and which organisation they were joining. In order to do so, we combined and put emphasis on the breadth and importance of FaZe Clan's branding within the eSports world before then moving onto the level of skill the player holds as well as themselves as an icon within the scene. Neither the player nor organisation's name are mentioned directly until the end, allowing viewers to connect the dots themselves, allow the gravitas of the announcement set in on their own.

Montage was used alongside roll from a shoot to highlight both the intensity of Sparg0's gameplay and the stature he holds as a player. Additionally, I manipulated the featured game's camera mode to create interwoven cinematic shots representing Sparg0's gameplay in a way uncommonly seen within the Smash Bros eSports, which provided the video a dramatic and memorable flair.

Additionally, I did all music selection, mixing and sound design for the project. I chose to utilise an intense, cinematic techno song to interweave FaZe Clan's cybernetic branding with the contextually story of a young prodigy rising to glory. It was very important to me that commentary from famous streamed matches of Sparg0's be featured alongside his gameplay, as it would further highlight and present his personality as a player while also displaying how exciting his play is to watch.

The reveal video was a huge success, being shown at the venue at the beginning of Sparg0's first match in the top 8 of the tournament's bracket, creating a monumental surge of excitement from the crowd; when posted to Twitter, the video attained over 18 thousand likes and 4 thousand retweets, with many commentating to say that it was "the coolest announcement they've ever seen" and that it "gave them goosebumps".
